The beauty of natural stone is reflected on the surface with unique veins. In particular, the shiny surface is very important for the polish surface in the expression of veins, natural color of the stone, creating the difference for natural stone. Therefore, the gloss retention, color and surface protection for stone is essential.

To protect natural stone surfaces, users need to know the cause of damage to stone surface and how to handle each case. Followings are some common problems for natural stone surfaces.

THE GLOSS IS LOST
Why?

After a period of use, natural stone surfaces can lose gloss, especially floor items which are made of marble as marble is softer than Granite. The first cause is due to the dirt, the sand grains embedded in the soles of shoes. The surface will be scratched when it is walked on, significantly reducing the gloss of the stone. The second cause is due to the use of inappropriate cleaners to clean the stone. These types of cleaners often have the usual strong bleach, highly corrosive which can erode surfaces, leading to not only the lost of gloss but also the lost of colors and translucence of natural stone surfaces.

How to handle?

We can polish to handle these problems. Polishing will help maintain, restore the gloss and increase the hardness of the surface materials as well as restore the original color of the material and highlight the unique veins of the stone. For the natural-stone-applied areas that are properly cared, re-polishing is performed each 6 months or 12 months. For others which have high traffic or improper care, it is advised to repolish whenever a problem occurs

SURFACE PROTECTION

After finishing re-polishing, it is highly recommended to protect stone surface with specialized products. Especially, for the interior area undergoing intense traffic, we can protect natural stone surfaces by surface coatings. The coatings will leave the material an excellent resistance to foot traffic and a specific closing to dirt and towards oxidation reactions from which they can suffer. It also helps waterproof and make it easy to clean and maintain stone. Some surface coating product even let the surface “breath”, enhancing resistance to UV rays. Therefore, it does not yellowish if exposed to direct sunbeams
In addition, to protect the stone surface from harmful agents, we can apply the following measures:
- In places with high traffic like hotel lobby, business center ... the carpet should be laid in entrance to avoid dirt and sand in shoe soles contact and scratching the stone surface

- Vacuum regularly to prevent scratches cause by dirt and sand.
- Use of specialized detergents and soft cotton towels to clean the stone. Do not use strong detergents, lemon juice, vinegar and other acidic solution because they can erode the stone.
